This is a final post to let people know where on the web they can find me. This journal ran its course and became not much more than a mirror for my flickr account and I have far too many things I struggle to keep up with. I will keep the account so that I can read my friends' journals and comment non-anonymously. I can be found in these places: Tuesday Meeting Doodles - where I continue something I started here - posting my doodles from my weekly staff meeting at work. I moved all the ones from here over to there and have started posting new ones and old ones that hadn't made it here yet. Dan Machold Photo - my very out of date photo website which I hope to turn into more of a blog format soon so I can update it more easily. ShowlistAustin - still going, still growing. Flickr - where I post anything and everything photo-wise, whether it be good or experimental or my cat. Twitter - where I post only about music - short record reviews and reports from and about shows I go to. Facebook - yeah, you know what facebook is. And after five years, I still play Kingdom of Loathing every day. See? I told you I have too much to keep up with! -Dan Tags: blabber |

I'm not going to do a day by day recap of SXSW this year as I have in the past, mainly because I twittered the entire thing as it went. Overall, I had a great time, saw tons of bands. The best were Crystal Stilts, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Woods, The Octopus Project, Baptist Generals, American Analog Set and DMG$. I definitely had a better time and found the vibe to be better at the unofficial shows. Every year I say it will be my last to buy a wristband but every year I buy one, so we'll see. I took almost no photos. Not sure why, really, just wasn't inspired to. I posted it on Facebook, but I'll post it here as well, a list of all the bands I saw, in chronological order: The Thermals DMG$ Themselves Roxy Epoxy & the Rebounds Casiokids The Proclaimers Akron/Family Ulrich Schnauss Gallows HR Band Circle Jerks Juliette Lewis & the New Romantiques (words cannot describe the horribleness) Echo and the Bunnymen Brothers and Sisters (Ok, I heard them from next door) Thee Goblins (Nardwuar!) The Pack AD Handsome Family (twice) The Hold Steady (twice) No Age Baptist Generals Red Red Meat Mark Sultan Obits Daniel Martin Moore Vetiver Jane's Addiction Little Boots The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (twice) American Analog Set Deer Tick The Sonics (ok, I only caught one song) Woods (twice) Air Waves Silver Scooter (yay!) The Van Pelt Camera Obscura Monotonix Ringo Deathstarr Gil Mantera's Party Dream The Octopus Project Eat Skull Crystal Stilts Dex Romweber Duo The Riverboat Gamblers Audacity Frank Fairfield Tags: music, sxsw |

This is my yearly post to tell everyone to go see some music this week! It's SXSW and, as usual, there are literally hundreds of shows each day that are totally free, unaffiliated with SXSW. You don't need a wristband or a badge. I have them all listed on showlistaustin.com - I only list the unofficial stuff. 99% of the shows there for Wednesday through Sunday are free and open to the public. So go! Tags: music, sxsw |

Wow, look, a real update! With text and everything. SXSW is almost upon us. This is when my life becomes hell. This is when I spend every waking hour outside of work trying to get every unofficial show and party up on showlistaustin.com. They are coming in pretty rapidly now but I suspect the flood gates will really open next week. None of the really big ones have been announced yet. There will be another Mess With Texas, there will be a Hot Freaks, Fader, Filter, Little Radio, all the usual suspects. Everyone's holding out, though. This year I have combined forces with two of the other most popular SXSW-covering websites, donewaiting and sched.org. We're sharing a database. I'm behind on posting all the newer stuff they have in there. *sigh* Why I decided to throw selling t-shirts into the mix is beyond me, but I did. They're up for sale on the site now. We'll see how that goes. That reminds me, I need to get some padded envelopes. I have buttons too, little inch pins, thanks to Joolie and her button-maker. Those are free but you have to find me and ask for one. Unless you're Andra. The list is popular enough now that I'm getting tons of ads for SXSW and the month surrounding it, which is nice, though, yeah, more work for lone employee me. Even this site wants to advertise. I'm fine with that, bring it on! Next year, interns! (I say that every year) Tags: blabber |
